It’s hard to believe a third of a year is almost behind us. Time flies like an arrow… fruit flies like a banana. ( Sorry, this is a really old joke but I thought it was an interesting opening.)

• Music historian Craig Maki talks to us about his new book: Tomorrow Brings Memories which brings to light a little-known history on the early years of Detroit’s independent recording industry of the 1930s and ’40s. Mellow Music: An Interview with Craig Maki

• Small press reviewer Tom Bowden provides a bonus column of reviews this month: i arrogantly recommend…by Tom Bowden Tom is working on a special novella edition of recommendations, and another reviewing all Detroit writers.
• Independent Bookstore Day is Saturday, April 30. We are planning a day of local authors to sign books, meet with people, and help us celebrate.

• Coming soon in May: Ukrainian author Andrey Kurkov, one of Ukraine’s most renowned authors, (featured recently on the front page of the New York Times Book Review) will be speaking at Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church on Wednesday, May 11th at 7pm. The church is located at 17150 Maumee, Grosse Pointe City. This event is sponsored by the Grosse Pointe library, and seating is limited. Please register to attend at Author Event with Andrey Kurkov.
