James Van Der Zee Photographer: Nude by Fireplace (unsigned collotype/ poster)
The is an unsigned poster printed in the 1970s for a West coast exhibition by James Van Der Zee, one of the most famous African-American photographers in the United States, known for his documentation and portraits of Harlem, New York.
This poster was reproduced by the collotype process – there is a continuous tone to the sepia tinted image, one of the few nudes to be printed by the photographer. Nude by the fireplace is assumed to be Van Der Zee’s wife and was taken in the 1920s. The exact edition of this printing was no more than 300 copies. The size of the poster is approx. 18×24″
