Meet Sebastian. About three years ago, someone anonymously left (at our back door) four boxes filled with about 60 volumes of the Great Books of the Western World, a series published by the University of Chicago and Encyclopedia Brittanica in the mid 1950s. In the last box was a teddy bear, dressed in overalls, a bowler hat, bow tie and shiny tap dance shoes. If you recognize this bear, please know he’s found a good home in the bookshop. He loves to read every day and is usually found up on his perch next to the Great Books shelf. Sebastian is a knowledge hungry teddy and loves reading lots of different books. Here he is, in the children’s section reading from Milton’s Paradise Lost.

“Unspeakable desire to see, and know
All these his wondrous works, but chiefly Man,
His chief delight and favor, him for whom
All these his works so wondrous he ordained…” —John Milton, Paradise Lost #greatbooksofthewesternworld
