Book Beat, Berkley Schools, and the Berkley Area PTA Council are proud to present the 9th Annual Read in the Park on Saturday, May 7th from 1:00-3:00pm at the Berkley High School Collaborative Center (2325 Catalpa, Berkley, MI 48072. (11 1/2 Mile, East of Coolidge Rd)). This year’s featured authors are: Caldecott Award-Winner David Small (who will be promoting his newest book, Bloom), Sarah Stewart, and Ronnie Bachman. David Small and Sarah Stewart will be presenting their picture books for children and their families and Ronnie Bachman will be presenting his inspirational story for older students and adults. He will be discussing and signing copies of The Charm Bracelet, which was written under the pen name Viola Shipman in tribute to his late grandmother who inspired the story. The MICHIGAN PSYCHOANALYTIC SOCIETY PRESENTS The Murmuring Deep: Reflections on the Biblical Unconscious by Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, Ph.D. on TUESDAY, MAY 31, 2016 from 7:30 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, (32841 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills). Dr. Zornberg will discuss Moses’ speech inhibition as a pivotal issue in the Exodus narrative. What is the nature of this ‘impediment’? We will look at psychoanalytic and philosophical thinking on the role of voice in communication, as well as midrashic and hassidic sources.
